Instrument panel

--1984 Pontiac Trans Am 305 V8--
I have been trying to troubleshoot some issues with my car, when I noticed my lights (indicator bulbs) on the instrument panel are not coming on when I start the car.
I'm trying to test the ECM by getting the check engine light to give me codes.
I get the choke light, but no check engine or anything else.
I removed the instrument panel and pulled the bulbs, they all seem ok but I replaced the check engine light just to be sure.
I still only get the choke light and my turn signal indicators are working properly. My car doesn't run properly atm so Im afraid to test the dash lights when I turn on the headlights. (I don't have a charger)

I replaced the 5A fuse in the fuse block under the dash, not that it was bad; I just did it because I had one and it takes it out of the equation.

What do you think I should check next?

Testing, 1-2-3

Check the BULB TEST line(s) coming out of the ignition switch for a broken connection.

Re: Testing, 1-2-3

Ok so i have been playing with it some more after your post NINA. Thank you for your reply, I now have the brake light coming on at test as well as choke, but still no check engine light. I checked the wiring diagram, and it says the white/DGreen wire coming from ECM to MIL is the only thing in the circuit. But doesn't it need a ground? Or does it ground to the same ground as the rest of the instrument panel? If so, the ground should be good right?
Also, the white/Dgreen wire seems to be fine, so ECM? Its only $65 lifetime warranty at Oreilly but I wish I could be more sure before I spend money on an electronic component.
