What do these wires go to?
I recently purchased my first camaro it is a 91 rs. While driving it home from the previous owners house the car suddenly shut off. Then I noticed smoke coming out from under the hood. I immediately think it is overheating. So i get it pushed into a parking lot for further inspection. Popped the hood and to my astonishment there was a fire!!! Only had the car for thirty minutes and now its on fire what a great start. Fire damage was not too bad but still sucks. Burnt through a couple spark plugs and almost all the vacuum hoses and also a couple wires. Soo i replaced what i could and am now trying to figure out the wiring. I have three stray wires, two(light green, gray) of which i think go to the MAP sensor. The other one(purple) im not sure about maybe the oxygen sensor? Where is the oxygen sensor? I only can find three wires that are burnt in half. The Map sensor needs three wires a gray one, a green one and a black one according to the wiring diagram. I dont have a black one that would go into the map sensor, is there anyway the purple one would be going to the map sensor? Need all the help i can get.

Those colors were reused for many functions in the harness. Color isnt enough
Even simple systems like TBI have a ton of similar looking wires that can make identification very tedious. Where is the MAP connector and why do you suspect all of the wires are related to it?
Why is the loom stripped off? Did you do it hunting damaged wires? Or the PO?

Re: What do these wires go to?
I believe the MAP was the cause of the fire. The previous owner must have took it off while working with something and forgot to put it back on the brackets. Which may have been the reason for the fire. The one you see is a completely new one. The connector that goes in the MAP sensor melted in the fire along with the original MAP sensor. Most of the loom was melted off and some was pulled off in search of the other half of the frayed wires. I suspect all the wires deal with the map sensor because there is no other logical place that they could go to. Also on the end of the of each wire there was a strange metal piece.

I dont recall the MAP grd being ppl for 3rd gens. Ppl usually related to low reference which is for PCMs while blk or blk/wht is generally older sensor grounds
Do you have a multimeter available?

Sorry i took so long to respond i took a trip to georgia and just got back. No i do not have a multimeter. Good to know that someone else has a purple wire going to the MAP instead of a black one. That has to be where the purple wire goes, thanks for the help.
