Will any of the wiring harnesses......

from the GM lineup of V6 cars in the late 80s contain the connectors to build my own TPI harness. I have access to a junk yard with plenty of them. I read somewhere that a V6 ECU can be used as one for TPI sans the prom. I would really hate to shell out for an expensive Painless(not to my wallet) wiring harness when I could basically get one for free.

Re: Will any of the wiring harnesses......

New aftermarket TPI harnesses can be had for around $200. If thats too much, then yes, you can assemble a harness from JY connectors. Read my thread about building LS1 harnesses to see how its done

A simpler route would be to find a complete 90-92 V6 harness and modify it. From an ECM and control point of view, V6 and TPI are nearly identical

Which after market harness goes for $200? The only ones I have seen are in the $400 dollar range. Thanks for confirming my suspicions on the V6 harness compatibility.

Re: Will any of the wiring harnesses......

The V-6 harness is a lot longer than the V-8 so it will require a lot of shortening of the wires, but with a few changes it will work.

One thing to note, the ac fan set up is different (if you care).

I have done a few.

How or can you add the 2 additional injector wires (4 total) to make it V8 from V6 without totally dismantling the V6 harness? I forgot to add that I have a 86 305 TPI unit that I plan on swapping in 22lb injectors and using a common HEI distributer with modded connecter going onto a 60s small block driven by a non computer 700r4.

Use your old TBI distributor

All 700R4s are non CC'd. Same with 4L60's

Computer controlled transmissions didnt come around until the E class trans were introduced. For Fbodys, this was 94

Sorry Pocket, please forgive my lack of knowledge of this type of injection system. I'm not sure which direction to go in and don't look forward to paying for a costly mistake should one happen. Could'nt find your thread on building a harness. Thank you for the info.
