Charging system issue
Charging system issue
I've got an 84 Berlinetta with the 2.8L in it. Occasionally, usually at least once per day, I've got an issue with my charging system. All of the gauges are tempermental and either work or don't, my battery gauge included.
Sometimes the battery gauge sits low, low probably at 7 volts or so. I know it's not just the gauge acting up because the blinkers will slow and lights dim and when I put load on the engine the voltage elevates. Then it will magically correct itself and operate properly.
What could this be? The voltage regulator inside of the alternator possibly giving me problems?

Alternative Information
It’s probably not going down to 7 however it is going down.
When it happens, raise the RPM to about 1,200.
Did the voltage go up to normal?
If it did, and if the car always cranks good don’t worry about.
