tach dont work help

Car: 1991 Camaro RS, 1987 Firebird
Engine: 305 TBI, 350 TPI
Transmission: 5 Speed, Auto
Axle/Gears: N/A someoone tell me
tach dont work help

my tach in my 1991 camaro rs does not work. sometimes when i start the car right as the engine cranks over the tach works but once the enigine gets running it just drops to the red line and obivislously thats not how its actually ideling. someone give me some suggestions on what could be wrong and how to fix it.

i would ohm the wire from the distributor to the gauge cluster, then ohm the grounds, check the connections at the gauge, if all checks good i would try another gauge. i have a similar problem but only when i turn my lights on so its likely a bad connection somewhere.

Go to the junkyard and pick up a old tack pull your instrument cluster and exchange
it. If it works you've nailed the problem.
