New problem with gauges, tach
I'll preface this by saying I appreciate everyone that provides great information everytime I have a problem. Hopefully, I can learn enough to help a few others out eventually.
That said, my battery guage is dead at 0, the tach does not move and stays at approximately 800rpm, oil pressure gauge shows about 2 lb., and the fuel guage is doing it's own thing from moment to moment. Speedometer and odometer are working properly it appears.
This started after a distributor rebuild and retiming recently. I know the tach used to be reliable, but have always questioned the temp gauge, fuel gauge, battery gauge. I just installed a new fuel pump and the fuel gauge used to work, although it would hang at full sometimes.
Where do I begin chasing this gremlin?

Ground To A Halt
You might have a ground that came loose at or near the dash connectors.
With an ohmmeter you can trace the ground.
Or sometimes the dash circuit board develops a crack causing similar problems.

How bout those too scared to drive without headlights in the daytime
and the ones that need headlights for a little rain
