So I'm pulling off my boot cover to get at the coil wire that's fried and notice my dizzy tip for #8 looks burnt compared to all the other ones as you can see. Lately when the car heats up it been missing and then got to the point where it would just die. So I checked my coil first and inside where the terminal goes was completly fried and the boot wire was cracked. So I get a new coil and 90 deg. boot and terminal and thats when I noticed this. Why just #8?

 

Which one is #8? They all look the same to me.

 

see how the one in the bottom left of the picture or front of the distributor is a burnt color compared to all the other one which are a nice and shiney and clean

 

its the non shiney one to the left. pull the number 8 spark plug and show us a pic, seems it got hot, coulda just been a bad wire

 

Look to see if the wire has cracks in the insulation. That could cause a short.
Also, ohm test the wire itself. High resistance = high heat. That could be the cause of the problem.

 

That type of discoloration is common with old wires. The boots arent sealing well and allowing oxygen into the connection. The heat created by high voltage combined with oxygen causes oxydization on the terminal. If you leave that wire long enough, it will become white powdery oxydization. You caught it early. Replace your wires with a quality set. Check plugs and if their looking at all worn, replace them too.
