Re: distributor help!!!!!!

I may be mistaking, but isn't the TBI distributor partially computer controlled? I don't believe it will work on a carbureted engine. You will need an HEI unit, with vacuum advance, depending on whether your using an aftermarket carb or not.

What mods all have been done? The stock quadrajet will need the stock computer controlled HEI distributor in order to function properly. I don't believe a TBI distributor (with the external coil) will work properly, and if you use an HEI vac-advance distributor, the carburetor won't function properly. You need both pieces in order for it to function properly.

Double check your firing order, and ensure your not 180* out.

Re: distributor help!!!!!!

Okay than.

The Rochester will only work with a stock cc distributor that it came with from the factory.

The holley wont work with the factory distributor, and I am pretty sure it wont work woth the TBI unit either. Get an HEI with vacuum advance.

Re: distributor help!!!!!!

A vacuum advance distributor really only needs one wire, and thats the IGN wire (a thick pink wire) to run. The tachometer wire should be a white wire, and hooks to the 'TACH' terminal on the distributor, if you have a tach.

If you keep the rochester, get a good used distributor from an LG4 (305 carb'd motor) that had an electronic carb, so they will work together.

If you plan on using a holley, than get a vacuum advance distributor, but stay away from the chinese ones on eBay, I got one and it didnt work at all. I bought an MSD Streetfire distributor from summit, popped it in my motor, and it fired the first try, just goes to show that quality matters.

Although, I dont want to tell you to go buy a new distributor, as I am not sure if the TBI one that you have can be modified to work without actually having a TBI unit. I am, however quite sure that it will not work with the holley.

Re: distributor help!!!!!!

The TBI dizzy wont work, it was computer controlled. Like stated before, youll need an HEI dizzy. It only needs a switched 12v source to work, and a wire for the tach if you have one.
