No Horn, Power locks, or radio
No Horn, Power locks, or radio
So, to start off with, I have an 85 Trans Am, 5.0 fuel injected. A couple weeks ago my vehicle was broken into, and someone stole my stereo along with various other items in my car. After the breakin, I have discovered that my horn, power door locks, and radio do not work. I am pretty new to working on cars, and have not been able t locate the issue yet. I searched through the electrical section of the forums, but havent found anything yet that sounds like it could be the same problem, so I am trying to see if anyone else has any ideas.

I pretty much had the same problem where my radio, horn, door locks etc would not work. Here take a look at this. I think your problem lies in the fuses marked 11 or its 13 but take a look and try to replace those cuz that worked for me.

Re: No Horn, Power locks, or radio
Did you try the ACC circuit breaker?
Re: No Horn, Power locks, or radio
apparently i was wrong about the fuse controling the power door locks. i replaced that fuse and it works now. problem is im still not getting power to the radio (tried replacing that fuse and it didnt do anything).
I also just noticed that when i put the fuse into the CTSY (11) spot, it seems to deactivate the other fuses. What i mean is, that when i have the fuse out, i can use a test light to check the other fuses, and they all light up. when i plug the fuse into slot 11, however, the other fuses cease to light up, and the gdinging sound that is made when the door is open goes off.

No Horn, No Power locks, No Radio . . . . BANG . . . . No More Thief
It’s possible that the diseased piece of street trash that ripped out the stereo also ripped a wire.
Make sure the ground wire still goes to ground, with an ohmmeter.
A yellow wire comes out of the fuse block which powers it from the RADIO fuse.
Using a voltmeter you can trace it back to where the power is present.
(Wire colors are subject to change year to year.)

Re: No Horn, Power locks, or radio
Does the radio you have in your car now have a fuse that plugs into the back of it because thats how my radio is and that could be your problem too. But since you just replaced it that likely isnt the problem. But then again make sure all your wires are still intact because thiefs arent going to be careful about if everything in your car stays in one piece.
Re: No Horn, Power locks, or radio
the fuses look good that are in the radio. Regardless though i had been checking for power from the wires before they would have hit the fuses. im going to try to find the short in the wire in the morning. Still not sure why the fuse for my power door locks, horn, etc seems to short out the other fuses though (i get no power to any of the other fuses when that fuse is in place).
Re: No Horn, Power locks, or radio
replaced the fuses that were dead in the panel (the one for the horn/door locks/ etc). so i got my horn and door locks working, still no radio though (replaced that fuse for good mesure, still nothing though). and i couldnt find a short in the wire. my grandfather has the same stereo, so im going to have him bring me his to test the wires and make sure its not just the radio itself that is dead, since i havent used this one before.
