Electronic hatch
Hey everyone just bought an 88 formula
the electronic hatch worked fine when I got the car
but I just got it home and opened the hatch
and now it won't close I set it down like normal
but the latch isn't grabbing it or turning on like usual
It still works when I hit the switch to open the hatch
just won't close
any help?

Re: Electronic hatch
There is a plastic tab that gets depressed by the 'hook' in the hatch when closing - this pushing of this plastic tab makes the motor close - push it with your finger and see if it closes.
There is also a small cam that turns when the hatch opens/closes - sometimes it'll fall out - make sure it's in there - if properly working you can see it kinda going up and down, rotating as it does this. I think this cam lets the motor know when the hatch is closed all the way in a sense.

Re: Electronic hatch
The late 91-92 setup is somewhat different then the earlier 86-92 assembly. That said I'd start by pressing the switch in the pulldown with your finger, it should go all the way down and click. When you release it, it should come all the way back up. If it's half way in between up and down, sometimes they need to be reset by running them all the way back down.
Try that first, it's cheap and easy.

Hey thanks guys i got it to close I messed around with the "reset" tab...It have to close it just right or the motor gets stuck inbetween..but for now its fixed
Re: Electronic hatch
Chances are pretty good that the electrical part of the assembly is fine. But they're also pretty good that the plastic housing, plastic gear, or the guide slides are cracked or damaged.
