Trunk / Hatch lid pull down question
Ok, so I installed a rebuild kit from TDS about 4 years ago. New motor, housing, guides, etc. About 2 weeks ago the pull down unit stuck in the up position, and will not go down. The fuse is good. I replaced the relay, did not help. I checked the power the the motor, its good. All grounds are tight. I got a hint to check to see if the hatch switch was good. It has to reverse the ground to tell the motor to go down. I'm pretty sure i did the test right, and the switch is still functioning properly. The motor makes no noise or movement at all. Any suggestions??

Re: Trunk / Hatch lid pull down question
There's 2 little switches inside - one gets hit by the trunk when it comes down, it's plastic, and sticks in the hole where the 'loop' from the trunk goes in.
There is another one - it's a small round thing with a spring behind it (like a clock spring kind of), it has a tab that sticks out on one side - it rotates as the motor goes up and down - it's hard to describe - it rotates kinda like a connecting rod on a crank.
Make sure both of these are there and functioning. The small round one easily falls out, the spring pops out, etc. Mine has done it several times over the years.
The absolute BEST way to ensure your trunk motor survives and works is to NEVER EVER NEVER under any circumstances NEVER let anyone EVER close your hatch (except you). And do it very very gently. I pull my hatch down until it just touches very easily, then I give it a very slight little push to activate it. I treat it like the entire mechanism is made from blown glass!
I have a few parts that I love dearly, and that I can't imagine ever losing. And I love my wife, and I love for her to 'handle' these parts as often as she can. But even my wife isn't allowed to touch my hatch!

Yeah I checked the one first one you desribed. The one that touches the hatch loop. I dont know where the second switch you referred to is located.

It's kinda down inside a tad - it would be against the very back of the car if that makes sense. It runs up and down and spins as it does - I think it's the mechanism that tells the motor when full up and full down is achieved. About the size of your thumbnail.
