need some help with high beams

need some help with high beams
so heres the deal i put an 88 steering column in my 90 wired it all up but the highbeam clucker didnt fit,so i went out and bought a toggle switch,wired it up,but now onlyt my lows work,and i have to pull the regular head light switch then flip toggle to get them to get on,but i cant get the highs to go on with toggle.im not sure what im missing here.

How many terminals are on the toggle switch? If its a standard 2-way toggle switch then its not gonna work. You need one with 3 terminals.
The oem high beam switch is a 3-way switch. One position allows the low beams to work. The other position turns the high beams on.
Using a 2-way switch would turn the low beams on or off, but not allow the high beams to work. To wire up the 3-way switch you need to connect the yellow wire to the middle or "shared" terminal, and the other 2 wires to the other terminals. That will allow you to use the switch to go between the high and low beams.
