code trouble help!! - ecm wont flash codes
got a very frustrating prob with my 91 z whenever the service engine light comes on, and i have not been able to pinpoint it because the car will not flash the trouble codes when i try to check them...
when i ground the plug and turn the key on, the engine light shines, but does not flash.. not even the 12 code. i have always relied on this to solve my problems with my other cars
is there another way to get the code read?
autozone says they cant do it.
help please

There's 2 "different" setups to ground out the ECM. It's in the tech articles if you need a refresher.
If your car is a automatic you will hear the converter lock/unlock as you ground/open the ECM circuit. Put the key in the run position with the motor off and try the 2 different possible patterns to ground the ECM and listen for the converter, you can't miss it unless you are in a really loud area. Once you hear the converter the SES will show the flashes. If you ground AFTER the key is in the run position you'll want to turn the key to OFF and back to run so it will start over from the beginning with the flashing.

https://www.thirdgen.org/service-eng...ht-error-codes
It is on the front page under Thirdgen Tech FAQ.
My 86 is pin 6-12 and my 91 is 5-6 and I always forget which is which when I go to pull the codes so I usually pull them as I described before.
