How do you pull power from a relay?
No clue about electronics. Have to wire up a msd street fire distributor and from what Ive gathered the fuel pump relay is where added electronics should get there power from. Somebody explain to me how I can run a wire to a chunk of plastic and pull power off it. Layman terms please
Re: How do you pull power from a relay?
Factory wiring is NOT a good place to steal voltage from, esp the already economy sized fuel pump wiring
Learn how a simple relay works (4 wires, it wont kill you) and draw from the battery

Basically a relay is simple - most have 4 prongs. One is a ground, one is a low amp positive to 'activate' the relay. The other two prongs get 'connected' to each other when the relay is 'activated'.
So, you need 12v+ ... connect ground, low amp 12v+, battery voltage in, and battery voltage out - the low amp 12v+ is to your switch. So, you turn on the switch, low amp 12v+ goes to the relay from switch, since relay is grounded, that circuit is complete, which 'activates' the relay, upon activation, the relay connects the other two pins, which is the batt volt in to the batt volt out, so that the batt volt is running to your device.
You can also have relay set to connect grounds instead of positives. You can also have the relay activated when the ground is turned on (relay has the 12v+ low amp connected always and you switch on/off the ground).
They are used so that you don't have to run high amperage voltage into and out of the cabin to your switch - just run low amp in/out to the switch and run the high amp device directly off the battery power.
For example, a stereo amp ... it would be silly to have to run a 0 guage wire to your stereo on/off switch - the stereo amp acts as a relay, and the low amp accessory wire from your stereo 'activates' the amp.

well I'm sure that all makes sense but I think I'm just more confused now. lol..but i found a pink wire with black stripe and white wire pigtailed together right behind where the dist was. Are these the originl power and tach wires? If so can I just run those to the new dist?

Those sound like the right colors. Reusing them is the easiest solution.
