Headlamp module question
Like many of you, I have a Firebird with headlamp doors that won't go down.
I rebuilt the motors, and they work (when I turn the doors down manually, they always open up as soon as I hit the light switch), but they won't go back down; maybe about once a month, one or both will go halfway down, but not all the way.
The concensus from everything I have read on this board is that the headlamp module by the brake booster is shot, and the only cure is to replace it with a new or used unit.
Here's my question: Couldn't I rig up a module from a newer Corvette or Firebird?
Since the modules in third gens have a reputation for crapping out (it is very rare that I see a third gen with fully functioning headlamp doors), why should I buy an expensive new one from the dealer, or get a used one that will probably just die in a couple of months anyway?
I don't see many Corvettes with their doors stuck open.
