MAT too high

Hey, my check engine light has been on since I bought my car and I finally got around to checking it. It read that my MAT was too high. I searched all around and found no answers. what is MAT and how do I fix it?
Thanks

If you have a stock air cleaner housing, it's that thing on the bottom you have to unplug to remove the air cleaner. It's a two wire plug. Perhaps it's not plugged in or even there? That connector needs to be plugged into one whether it's in the cleaner housing or relocated to a cooler spot where it may cause it to run leaner and not retard the timing from heat soaking. Maybe it's plugged in and hanging down by the exhaust. That's too hot
