Gauges died?
Sup all,
Got a little problem with my gauges.
Here's some background:
Engine/Tranny/Rear/Exhaust - All swapped.
I decided to change the speedo cable at the same time. So I took the gauges off. Whill off, I decided to change the gauge bulbs at the same time. Sooooo, I switched in 194 white bulbs for the dummy lights. For the backlighting, I went with 168 green bulbs (to be cool!).
So now my question is, would the assumed different resistences of the 168 bulbs cause some of the gauges not to work?
The gauges that are out are the:
Fuel gauge- always reads 0.
Temp gauge- always reads on the mark between 100 and 220. (Is that right?)
Speedo- always reads 0.
Tach- always reads 0.
Only two working are:
Volts
Oil psi
Turn signals and highbeams work. Backlighting works.
Only test light that comes on when turning the car on is Brake I think.
When the gauge was out, I was spinning the odometer for fun, would that effect anything?
Everything was working before teardown. When it was all back together, nothing was working, not even backlights. I got what's working now by pushing the gauge face in.
Ideas?
I should take a video.

Check the flexible circuit for breaks, and make sure the dash connectors have good contact.

If you removed the entire cluster, it's very possible that you didn't get it reseated properly--as far as the speedo is concerned, did you reattach the cable to the speedo head (so that it clips into place) and transmission (so that the cable is seated in the driven gear)? Double check the above.

Ok, I'll have to pull the gauges out tomorrow. The speedo cable was attatched, top(PITA) and bottom.
How would I check if they're making good contact if I can't see it while it's on? I'll try to figure it out.
---
Edit:
RPM is not actually 0, it maxes out.
Temp probably does work, it moved from 100 to that middle mark. I have a 160* thermostat so it could be correct.

Re: Gauges died?
Little update.
Sooo, I probably should've the driven the car more and then posted. Fuel gauge is working. This time I actually put more than 1 gallon in
.
So basically gotta find out why my speedo/odo aren't moving, why the tach is maxing out and why the dummy lights aren't illuminatin. Can't complain about that last one!
The speedo cable was replaced, so it's possible that's wrong. The tach I have no idea. There was this block looking thing on the dash that was wired from the dist that went inside the car. I think it's a "filter". Oh, the dist was replaced too.
So yeah, suggestions?
