Power leads by battery are a mess!

Hi everybody. I need a favor from somebody. Can anyone please take a picture of the wiring that is right next thier battery? I want to clean up the area but damn. It looks a web in that area. Preferrably a picture from a 86 IROC or 87 IROC would be great guys. Thanks in advance.

Wow, looks like somebody completely removed your junction box. Easy to snag at JY. That's most of what you need, sorry though, no pics.

A junction box? I didn't even know there was such a thing. Alright then. Between what years or camaro's or firebirds should I be searching in?

Ok. I now know what to look for (junction box). One more question guys. What are these little 3 black long cylinders? They have a number stamped on it but what is it? Are they neccessary?

Well, its not actually a box, its more like a terminal where several wires are all connected together. Almost all third gens I've seen at the JY have them. And those things are fusible links. Yes, you need them. They are like fuses built in to protect the circuits they feed. The numbers refer to the amperage load they can stand

Hey, if the JY is not convenient for you, I know I've got a couple of them laying around somewhere. If you get me your email address I can send you a pic of one and where it goes if that would help. The whole idea is to give you the ability to disconnect a circuit by unbolting the power wire from the junction rather than cut the wire off, which is where you're at now

Re: Power leads by battery are a mess!

Come to think of it, it might still be there, I can't see in your pics, but look between the battery and the radiator. See that vertical metal brace between the battery tray and the radiator support ? Near the bottom, is there a black heat sink looking thing with a horizontal bolt in the middle of it? May have some wires attached with ring terminals to the center bolt. That's where all those wire should be terminating. Just an afterthought, I apparently have lots of those...
