Electric Fans
Electric Fans
I have a 1992 Z28 that I'm putting back together. It's been sitting a while. Got it started this weekend and noticed the electric fans were not coming on. At what temp are they supposed to engage? It got up to almost 220 before I shut it off. I checked the connections and fuse. Both good. Where should I start the troubleshooting.

Re: Electric Fans
If this is a dual fan car, I think normal "on" temp is 218 maybe? Then secondary kicks in at like 238. It's high - these cars were designed to run hot to help with emissions. Run it again, and let it go to 250 - the fans should come on by then for sure (assuming your guage is relatively accurate).
On a dual fan car, one fan will come on with the A/C regardless of the temp - that's a small easy test to see that THAT fan is working correctly. On a single fan car, the single fan will always come on with the A/C.
The primary fan on a dual fan car is controlled by the ECM - secondary fan controlled by the A/C and the fan switch in the pass side head.
Single fans are solely controlled by the A/C and the fan switch.
Hope that helps.
