Re: How do i create a switch that turns on my fans?

lots and lots of different thermostats are avalible to
control the electric fan;some just replace the original
thermostat in the head, some have a thermistor probe
that pokes into the radiator fins and controls a circuit
board that switches on the relay, some have a thermal
bulb that connects to a switch with a capillary tube.
There are other styles as well.
The radiator fan on my car is belt driven, but my oil and
tranny coolers have their own electric fans;for the oil fan
i used a spare chevy citation fan switch-just tapped
my oil filter adaptor for it ans threaded in,it grounds
a relay to activate the fan.For the tranny i used a
capillary tube style adjustable thermostat.
For the engine running temp, you don't want to run it
"too cool"-if it is running too cold the cold oil film on
the cylinder walls will be stiff causing extra friction,
gas will condense on the cylinders washing the oil
film causing wear and diluting the oil in the pan
i run mine at 195*,i'd say 180-230 is a good range
-a lot of nascar engine builders like to run their
engines at around 230*
you do want the air going into the engine to be cool
though-you get a denser mixture into the cylinders,
therefor more power potential

Perhaps you should verify that your fans aren't functioning before you explore other options.

You splice a wire into the fan(s) relay control wire and run that to ground through a switch
Switch off ; computer controls fan
Switch on ; fans run when ever you want

Best way

Here is the stock LO3 fan diagram for your 90
http://www.austinthirdgen.org/mkport...an_V8_vinE.jpg

Its controlled by a thermal switch in the pass cyl head between #6 & #8 primaries. Make sure its in working order. If you still want a manual override switch, tee into the wire and take it to ground at the switch. On means fans run constantly with the IGN on, off means the thermal switch controls on/off
