Trunk pulldown giving me nothing but headaches.

Hi guys....First off my trunk pulldown on my 91 gta was working fine until I was...well lets say, being an idiot, when I forgot to completely latch the trunk before driving down the road. Ever since then it has been trouble plagued. Heres the INFO:

When I unlock the trunk with my key:
(95% of the time the hatch will release but the pulldown wont raise up)
(5% of the time it the hatch will release and the pulldown will raise)

When the pulldown doesn't raise I have to go inside the car and press the hatch release button a couple of times in order to get the pulldown to raise up. (Ya a major PITA.)

If I open the hatch by just pusihing the release button:
(100% of the time the hatch releases and the pulldown raises but within 3 seconds the pulldown begins pulling the hatch back down !)

If anybody has any ideas Id be happy for the help! Thanks guys!

P.S.
I recently had the wiring connections redone and a brand new trunk pulldown motor installed also.

The opening and immediately closing again sounds like you need new hatch struts. Yours are getting fatiqued, and don't have the force to open the heavy hatch all the way before the motor 'feels' that the hatch is still there and starts pulling it down again. Mine does this, I also need new struts - if I grab the edge and lift slightly as it's raising, it releases just fine.

I NEVER use the key to open the hatch - it's just too rough of an operation for that motor assembly to handle well, given that half the motor internals are cheap plastic levers/switches that were never built to last 20+ years. I always use the release button, and I also have my release wired to a keyless entry remote.

take the hatch pull down out of your car, take to a clean work place and take it apart.
plug the motor back up to see if it still runs (if does clean every thing with cab cleaner or TB cleaner and re-grease every thing)
