Rear Hatch No Juice

My rear hatch motor is stuck down. It will release with key, but the motor still does not rise or even attempt to do anything even then. The light in the hatch is not coming on either. Basically it acts like it is getting no power what so ever.

I replaced both relays and checked the wires going to the units. The hot for the light is good, and at least one of the wires going to the motor is hot and bringing power. The fuse is fine. Pushing the release or close switch on the assembly does nothing. Overriding the release switch does nothing. Mechanically everything looks fine with the slides and casing and everything. All the wires, plugs and everything else look fine.

It seems like their is a common ground wire that is preventing the rear from electronics from completing a circuit. There is a black wire that is grounded to the body right there though that I assume is it, and it is fine.

Out of ideas, need some help

Are You Using The Hatch To Make Orange Juice ?

In the Pull-Down Unit there is a reversing switch that causes it to come up which you can access thru the opening where the latch is with a screwdriver or pencil.

Sometimes that switch needs to be flipped.

The reversing switch is about a half inch more towards the rear of the car than the latch is.

I forget if you need to flip it up or down but it will be obvious because it when it’s in one position it can only move in the other.

Yes, already tried both of the switches. No reaction to either. I suppose the switch could be bad? But need to know the proper way to check it.

Re: Rear Hatch No Juice

Ok..

plug on the left (from relay to motor) red/white, black, and black/org wires all have 12v.
plug on the right (from switch) black, and black/orange wire both have 12v
plug to light all wires have 12v 2 red/white and a black/orange

Motor
Putting 12v to either post does nothing
12v on bottom pin and grounding out the motor housing completes a circuit, but motor does not spin.
12v on top pin and grounding out housing does nothing. This pin also appears to be loose.

Is the motor shot? I can't figure out why the light still isn't coming on, but looking at the diagram somewhere the black/orange wire runs through the motor so if it is shorted I guess it could stop working. Or if that one pin is not connected anymore it can't complete a circuit (I assume the connections are power/power to spin in different directions?)? But then putting power on a pin and grounding it should still make it spin right?

If you put 12 volts directly to the motor and it won’t try to turn, that’s a good bet it’s bad.

Putting 12 volts across the motor won’t illuminate the light because it’s separated by diodes.

Re: Rear Hatch No Juice

Took off the "up" switch cleaned everything, switched it when removed from the motor and the light came on. Connected it to the motor in this position and the motor bumped up to the top like normal. Don't get it, but it is working now?

Normally, the light is turned on when the Extend Relay is energized, and then is kept lit by the Latch Switch in the Pull-Down unit.

Of course the main concern is the motor, which apparently is bad based on post #4.

As a reminder, IIRC you can not put 12 volts directly to the motor.

For that you have to open the unit.

Putting 12 volts to the connector will work only if the internal switches are good.
