Need help. Fans are giving me a head ache.
I live on the east coast of VA and its been colder here lately. My car has been acting a little strange since it got cold. It's a 1992 z28 convertible 305 TPI. The main problem I am having is that my cooling fans are coming on, all the time! I sound like an air plane pulling up. Upon turning the key to on both of the fans come on. Then when the engine is started only the passenger side fan remains on. Even starting the car in the morning when it's 28 degrees the fans come on. I pulled the fuse out labeled "fan" and it stopped them but by the end of the day my voltage meter had severely dropped and the car wouldn't start. I put the fuse back in, trickle charged the battery and it started again and is maintaining the voltage, but the fans are still on! I feel like the car is burning more gas and producing les power too. So there is definitely some sort of wiring issue. Pictures and diagrams are welcome!

The fans and alt share the same fuse. Pulling it will kill the battery as you noted
There are 3 relays near the brake booster. Two 4 wire gray body ones are for the fans, The 5 wire black body relay is fuel. Pulling them out is not advised because you can still overheat in traffic. Figure out whats tripping them
Side note, defrost is an AC setting and having the AC on trips the HD cooling override in the ECM. Try sliding the HVAC to the off position and see if the fans stay off at startup
Also, check for PO wiring jobs near the booster or ECM. Fans are commonly rigged

thank you for the info, the car has only had 2 owners, my grandfather and I, so I don't think the fans are rigged up, but I can't wait to try some stuff in the morning.
