I have an 89 camaro with a hatch with a motor that doesnt latch. I have got all the electrical problems fixed in my car except the pull down hatch. It is the only thing wrong with my car now and i would like to put it up for sell but cant until i get that fixed some one please help me asap!! Preferably someone who has dealt with the problem rather than guessing but im open to anything cause im really tired of my car gettin peeked into at night haha

my hatch did that a few times, my battery was just REALLY dead and couldnt power the mottor to pull it tight (the motor has to be in the "up" position in order for it to latch on)

 

I have a brand new Duralast battery so i dont think that is the problem considering everything else works fine. My father in-law is a mechanic but also can figure it out so... lets keep this professional. I said i want people who know what more wiring than guesses.

Does the motor push the latch part up? you can press the black lever where where the hatch locks and it should go up, I have to do that on mine for it to close

 

Technically all you're going to get is guesses on a forum because the only proper diagnoses is one done hands on.

So let me guess, is the latch down or is it in the up position protruding from the hair brushes.
If its down, as mentioned, its not going to latch.
If its down, then my guess would be either the motor went bad or the position switch.

I could guess on what the problem may be if the latch was all the way up and it would have to be a guess since you neglected to give enough information, but you don't want guesses.

 

Its in the down position and when I push that lever the motor starts but doesn't move the latch.

 

take it apart and check the guides and the gear nut.

 

With the addition of some important facts that would be my guess as well.
