MAT sensor gone?
Hey guys, my ses light was on and it turned out that the MAT was too high. I asked someone and they said where it should be and it turns out I guess I don't have one and I found cut wires in the engine bay. I can deal with the ses light on but my question is does it change how the engine runs and can it do damage?
Thanks

The MAT sensor affects fuel delivery according to air temperature. Cooler air has a higher density of oxygen molecules. Thus it needs more fuel to maintain AFR. The IAT sensor on your TBI should be in the air cleaner. If the wires were cut, you'll need a replacement connector also.

That sensor helps your computer with fuel mixture and timing a little. I think it's better to have it connected at least somewhere if not at the stock location. If you have two wires, one tan and one black, that's where it hooks up. You can probably find the pigtail at the JY or a parts store. If you can't, I've got an extra plug with sensor I could send you for pretty cheap. LMK

And if you don't replace the sensor in the air cleaner, you need to block/plug the hole for it - it would allow unfiltered air to enter the TBI unit.

IIRC, the sensor sits outside the filter. I don't like the idea of running an EFI car without any of its sensors.

Nope, Newbie is right. It's inside the filter on the back side, slightly toward the pass. side. Will allow dirty air to get sucked in if not plugged. I left mine plugged in, but got a cable extension with another sensor and ran the wiring closer to the front where the air is more like what is really getting sucked in. Runs a little leaner and advances the ignition a tad, similar to the results achieved by using one of those fake ebay "performance chips" which is only a resistor put in the harness to make the sensor signal that the incoming air is colder than it is
Well, it doesn't actually advance the ignition, it just keeps it from being retarded from the heat-soaked sensor
