Code 41 & nervous Tachometer

Hi all!

Yesterday I fired my new 389 Stroker engine up for the first time. There were some electrical discharges while cranking without spark plugs, but as soon as my sparkplugs went into the heads and the wires were plugged in, the engine ran pretty good and rev'd like a motorbike

Today I scanned it via Diacom and it showed Code 41 - Cylinder select error .

At the moment, the engine cranks, starts, tachometer rises from idle ~1000rpm to about 5000rpm and then the engine dies.

Do you have any idea about this problem?

My setup is:

389 , Holley Stealthram, 48mm TB, 28lb/hr Inj., AFR195 Heads, Jones Cam 280/286 ; 1.6' Rockers ; Hooker Super Competition Headers, etc

Bin: Custom Tune from a 89 camaro with nearly same engine
Ostrich with G1 adapter & stock memcal connected to adapter.

thanks in advance
Alex

Re: Code 41 & nervous Tachometer

Can this errorcode occur if my pickup coil or ignition module is defective?
Will try to change the whole distributor unit (have one as spare from a 92 engine).
I have read something about "tach input error" for error code 41 ( and cylinder select error + fault at cam sensor ).

ok, i know i have no cam sensor, and i don't have cylinder selection either, whatever that means) so it has to be "tach input error"...

my tachometer rises immediately to 5000rpm after starting the engine and then it dies...
i think the rpm signal at the ecm is already at 7300rpm (fuel cutoff rpm)....

Re: Code 41 & nervous Tachometer

Which chip do you mean?
The one emulated by the Ostrich is $00 = 8cyl.
The other one attached to the G1 adapter is a self burned chip and SHOULD be a slightly modified arap.bin (or whatever was used for a 89' 5.7 t/a ) , as far as I know, the only things changed were the temperatures to turn the fans on and deactivated vats.

Would it be possible to use a 1987/88 prom? i may have one as a spare from a formula 350.

Re: Code 41 & nervous Tachometer

Problem solved , Ostrich was not hooked up correctly (didn't know that i don't have to use the g1 adapter).
