Firebird gauges in Camaro
Gauge cluster was in when we got the Camaro.
Tach & volt meter work, gas gauge is off, water temp & oil pressure don't work. I'm going to trace the wires & see if they are connected to the cluster.
I've seen a thread saying basically it won't work due to wire harness & sending unit diffs.
I ** suspect ** it's Firebird harness---any sure way or telltell things to look for to verify one way or another? The tail light harness definitely is Firebird.
For the gas gauge, if sending unit values are diff, would a diode on the gauge wires help?
I have NO CLUE how to go about getting them all to work correctly. Friend said he'd loan me a book of sensor & sender locations of GM vehicles from the '80s to early 90s.
Heres all I know---
'87 Camaro
'92 350
Carb'd,*** NO ECM ***
Holley Blue pump, press reg, 650 carb
Firebird tail light harness
Firebird console, HVAC controll, dash pad, & gauges
There's a VSS on the speedo
No speedo cable hooked to it. I believe there's aftermarket connector to make it work, Dakota is for digital AFAIK.
Is it as simple as getting values & diodes for oil press & water temp?
Disassembly of dash // gauges will be in 2 weeks.
ANY HELP & education is GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

Re: Firebird gauges in Camaro
Should be no difference in senders for 'Bird or 'Maro - just different cluster - I assume the cluster makes changes for digital guages if needed b/c everywhere I look gives same part numbers for senders on either car. There is a different sender for idiot lights vs. gauges.

I might be wrong (it does happen but don't let my wife know), and I'm certainly no expert on the 'Birds, but I've never seen any 'special' senders listed anywhere, just gauge senders and idiot light senders.

Re: Firebird gauges in Camaro
I have swapped a gta harness into my camaro. the only difference is in the headlights and tail lights. all gm vehicles use a 0-90 ohm sender for the fuel tanks, all the motor sensors are the same as well. even the hook up at the firewall is the same with minor changes. it matters more whether they came from a v6 or a v8 than from a camaro or firebird as far as sensors go. good luck
