headlight dimmer switch replacement 92 RS please help

Okay so a few months ago I was having my tailights fixed on my Camaro when I was informed that my headlight dimmer switch was about to go out and would need to be replaced if I expected to be able to drive at night. Sure enough my headlights no longer work, so I went ahead and purchased a new switch and plan on just doing it myself to save on money which I really don't have much of. The problem is im not sure on how to replace this or really even where its located, I know somewhere in the steering column, so if somebody has experience here and could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The dimmer switch is located at the bottom of the column.

First make sure it needs replacement, and that it’s not merely out of adjustment.

You can adjust it by loosening the hardware, sliding it, tighten it then test with the stalk, then readjust as required.

When i replaced the turn signal/dimmer switch in my 89 RS i had to get one of these tools to reinstall the lock plate in the steering column. Im sure its possible w/o it, but it a real PITA.

OP - are you talking about the actual switch itself (which is under the dash on the column), or the lever on the column (which is at your left hand when you drive)?

The actual switch may just need to be adjusted and not replaced, saving you even more money (assuming you still have your receipt). Two small screws hold it on, loosen them, and slide switch upwards just a tad, retighten, and check hi/low beams.

If you have tilt wheel, tilt the wheel down to normal driving position BEFORE adjusting switch - you want it to operate when you are driving, not when you are parked and the wheel is tilted up (and it's rare that you can adjust it for all tilt positions).

if it's the arm on the column, and you need to disassemble and remove the steering wheel, would you please take some photos of how the turn signal cancelling cam goes in???? I can't get that silly thing to work ever since I tightened the column. It's the round, white disc with a nipple on it. $3 part is causing me grief

It was actually a very simple fix, dropped the column, replaced the old switch and bam, it works like new. Only took about 15 minutes
