DD dies will driving...any suggestions?

DD dies will driving...any suggestions?
1986 camaro 5.0 tpi
when the revs drop down to idle the car will shut off, (however after start up i do not need to coax the engine to keep running, it will idle on its own) i know that this is a very common question and in my research i found too many variables.
i just swapped in a t5 trans and before i did the swap the car was stalling when i would put it in gear, now it is stalling when the rpm drops to idle, i am planning on properly setting my idle speed with the iac on monday, but does anyone have any thoughts on what this could be? if i left out any info that would help let me know. thanks

the reason i posted this in electrical is because i was wondering if my alternator could be the reason, i had a battery that wouldnt hold a charge (known fact not a guess) and i got a new battery before the weekend but hadnt had a chance to drive it yet.
