no SES light

my SES does not illuminate at all. it's supposed to go through it's self diagnostic as i turn the key to the "on" position and it doesn't. i also pluged in the scanner to check codes on the car and the SES never came on or flashed or anything.

also my fuel pump doesn't work. would those be related? is my computer shot?

Re: no SES light

some people take the bulb out so it dosent light up when theyre trying to sell it, its happened to me, and a few other people on here. pull out your gauge cluster and check if there is a bulb behind the SES part. it also might just be a blown bulb.

I am going to guess the car does not start/run either ?

They both share a 20A fuse in a weatherpak holder right by the battery (usually on the upper frame rail). Make sure it is not blown.

On your 1989, that fuse will be on the left/driver's side near the battery.

The fuel pump prime is controlled by the ECM. Given that you don't hear the fuel pump and the Service Engine Soon light does not illuminate, it sounds like a circuit issue with the ECM. ECMs rarely go bad. Unless, of course, you have seperate issues (burned out Service Engine Soon light and a bad fuel pump).

Re: no SES light

i'll look again, but i searched all around near the battery. i didn't see a fuse anywhere near it. the wiring of my car has been messed with so that could be some of the issues. but i'll look again. is it in a hard to find spot, or out in the open?

Re: no SES light

so i looked for that fuse today, everywhere near the battery, and i didn't see anything like that. maybe it's in the fender? idk, but it's not there.

Re: no SES light

Look at the end of the positive battery cable and follow it partially away from the battery. There should be a splice. The fuse should be in the nearby area. The fuse may not look like a fuse to you as it's an enclosed fuse (if hasn't been tampered with) and I believe (also if not previously tampered with) it should be mounted in front of the battery.

if it has been tampered with, what would be the reason for relocating/pitching that fuse? never would i think it would be a good idea to start moving fuses around or pitching them..
