Door lock and flasher
Door lock and flasher
I have an 87 GTA with the following problems power lock does not fully engage (lock or unlock door) the flasher flashes rather slow (changed to a heavy duty) and the power windows are very slow. I have done the following tested battery with car off reads 12.5 volts and with the engine running 14.7 volts another step thas was suggested was to test the ground from the battery to the alternator bracket to see the reading I could get on my ohms meter and to also verify the purple wire that is at the starter for any signs of corrosion or looseness I wil be doing these tests this afternoon if these test turn up positive what would be the next suggestion.

Re: Door lock and flasher
Door Locks: Sounds like it's time to remove the door panels, clean the 20+ years of gunk and stiff grease off the solenoids, rods, and such, and regrease with new white lithium.
Flasher: Did you replace with electronic or just h/d standard flasher? Unless it's an electronic flasher, the bulb wattage can affect the flash rate - higher wattage bulbs will make flasher work slower.
Door Windows: Might be time for track adjustments, or most likely new motors. Window motors are easy to replace if you use the "new" method - search TGO for "window+bogus" and you'll find the thread complete with template to print.

Thanks camaronewbie I have done the test from the negative on the battery to the mounting location on the alternator I got a reading of -.04 gathering this acceptable I will remove the door panels tomorrow and clean up everything related to the door locks while I'm at it I will adjust the windows as I noticed this afternoon when the window was going down it was on a slight angle as I pushed down on it it straightened out and went down normally I will also replace the heavy duty flasher stat to an electronic one.

Re: Door lock and flasher
Only thing left I can think of is maybe just new bulbs in the housings. Not sure what would make them flash slow if bulbs are good and flasher is good, unless just a weird bulb that is on it's way out or something.
