on my 86 iroc with the lights off, and you hit the brakes, my instrument panel and shifter light comes on, as well as parking lights. if the headlights are on, the brakes are on, dash, shifter, headlights ect ect, and if you hit the brakes it doesnt get any brighter.. im stumped on this.

Sounds like a shorted bulb or a bad ground. The brake lamp circuit will try to find ground through the parking lamp circuit. Have you done any wiring work on the car?

 

no sir, the guy who orig. had it, stripped it all turned it to a drag car, did the wiring. and half-a@# the car. so i got it from him and trying to get it street legal, it works if the lights are off so during the day.. just when u hit the brakes parking lights go on. night driving everything goes on

 

not sure if this helps but when i hit the brakes i hear a fairly loud CLICK seems to be coming from up front under the hood driver side.. near the sidemarker possibly.

 

Oh boy. Good luck with that. The click is probably some sort of solenoid for maybe a line lock or something. As far as your wiring, for me to try to advise you based on OE information would be pointless, since your car has been stripped. My best advice is to get a good factory wiring diagram for "exterior lighting". All Data or Mitchell may work, or go to austinthirdgen and look for wiring diagrams there. I'm working at creating a wiring diagram library here on TGO but it isn't going well. Use the factory diagrams as a road map to determine what's missing and what's been changed.

yeah the clicking was a relay on the drivers side, closer to the headlight. unplugged it, and everything still works the same, so thats not the issue there.

 

haha wow, driver side tail light had all 1156 bulbs in it, i didnt even realize it.. put the correct ones in and it all works great now.. i feel very stupid..

yeah, i didnt even mess with the bulbs when i tore the whole car apart, so learned from others mistakes. thanks for the though man, trying to get another 3rd gen on the road.. been a long process

 

LOL. I spent two hours once on a Subaru that kept blowing tail lamp fuses. After going over the harness looking for a short to ground, I found a shorted bulb. S**T happens.
