Power window wiring help

Hey guys. Not many people have done what I am in the process of doing on a 3rd gen so I need to pick your brains. I have a painless 18 circuit chassis harness installed. For the power window circuit all it gives you is a fused power wire for each side. I have my complete 3rd gen power window wiring in place and have the pink power wire coming off the switches. I don't think I can attach it directly to the painless fused wire so how would I go about getting power to that pink wire for the switch?

Any way to get a relay system with both painless wires going into the single stock pink wire? I know the factory setup didn't use a relay so I'm stumped.

I am very intrested to see how things work out for you. I have another post up on the board asking if the painless 18 circut kit will work for our cars. I hope somebody chimes in with a answer.

I am installing one right now. AWESOME kit. It's the painless PN 10201. Completely plugs into the factory steering column and all you really need to do is keep your old tail light harness, headlight harness, wiper wires, and heat/AC wires and they all splice very nicely into the painless harness. I'm about halfway through the install at the moment. Not many people on these boards take the initiative to do this install so there's basically no info out there for it.

My biggest concern at the moment is what circuits I will need to use relays on, and what circuits can run right off the painless fuse block alone. I am thinking the window and door locks each need a relay but am not 100% sure which is why I asked my original question.

Re: Power window wiring help

Any of the higher amperage applications need relays. The relay uses a low amperage activation wire to "activate" the coil inside the relay, which then literally throws a pole from one direction to another to transfer higher amperage battery power directly to the application.

But I'm no expert on window switch and power window operation, so I won't speculate on the actual wiring and post what would surely be bad wiring example.

I actually called painless today and got the situation straightened out. I explained my wiring set up and he said that I could use 1 relay to operate both windows due to our cars switch setup (being that the switch changes the polarity to go up or down rather than running 2 seperate relays per window circuit).

How is the wiring coming along? Did you get it all sorted out? I'm intrested in your progress to see if the kit is worth the money?

I actually completely finished the chassis harness as of a few weeks ago. Came out awesome and everything works as it should. I'm very happy with painless's quality and support. If you have any questions, ask away!
