takin off all the junk!!
alright guys im in need of some help here im kinda new to this whole thing with cars and such im a bike guy but i bought this 1983 z28 with a blown 305 swapped it out. keep in mind most of the electronics were already disconnected from everything. here is my problem if you dont know already i dont know what to leave off or what to keep in the thing. i wanted to see if there was a way to keep the computer in it and remove all the carb and emissions out of that equation. is this possible? if not what should i do. and IF so what should i do. im really at a stand still and i dont know where half of the wires go or what they do and me and electronics are not a good combo... so i figured heck why not ask some people that know what they are doing

Re: takin off all the junk!!
Welcome to TGO.
Keeping the computer requires keeping both the electronically controlled carburetor and distributor. The ECM is under the pass side hush panel and all of the computer wiring runs through the harness on the pass side. It can be removed complete and mechanical carb/dist will plug right in.
Swap issues include getting the proper TV bracket and torque converter lock up for the automatic trans, if you have one.
It may be less expensive to fix what you have. Likely less expensive to operate as well.
