Gauges not fully working

I think I've reached my wits end with this one.

All of my gauges worked almost perfectly before the engine swap from a 350 tbi to a 383 stroker.

I've checked the batter grounds, the ground to the chassis on the battery side, the ground strap to the back of the passenger side head, and don't know what else to check.

I pulled the cluster, and cleaned the contacts on the back, checked fuses, and no dice.

The gauges that are malfunctioning are the oil/fuel/tach and sometimes Speedometer. The speedometer works when I let off the gas when I'm on the highway, and the other gauges flicker when I flash the headlights on and off quickly.

Am I missing any grounds somewhere? Could the Bulkhead connector not be in correctly? There are some black/white stripe wires coming from the bulkhead connector that are cut, could those be grounds?

This is the only thing keeping me from driving the car,

Re: Gauges not fully working

I am interested in this answer as well, I have a 355 swap, speedo works all the time, but thats it.

If I turn on headlights and twist the dimmer **** I can get all my gauges to jump.

If I turn the illumination **** all the way off (so all internal lights are off), the voltmeter works, but others dont.

Driving me nuts.....

Re: Gauges not fully working

I have a similar but different problem. I have an '87 5 Speed Camaro. My Tach works, but my speedo, odom, and water temp gauges don't work. My tach and alt meters work just fine. And my right turn signal works as it should. However whenever my left turn signal should blink, the fasten seatbelt light flashes instead... Any advice? I'm thinking it's a problem with either a fuse, the wiring, or the cluster itself.

EDIT: I believe my speedo isn't working because of a bad bearing in the base. Also, one of the contacts on the left power supply for the cluster seems to be pretty worn and torn. Any way to repair it?

Re: Gauges not fully working

Ok, so I got the left turn signal working as it should. Whenever the car isn't moving, the light stays on, rather than blink. But when driving it works as it should. :S

The problem was that the left power module was inverted. Thankfully, it was an easy fix. But the other gauges still don't work. I took apart the entire damn cluster, and put it back together. Still no fix. :S

I think I know what is wrong with the speedo. But as for the fuel, oil pressure, and temp gauges, they don't seem to be working. I could be wrong about the temp gauge now, because the needle did spike and go back down when I started the car today after re-inverting the power module. I'll test it with a drive today and see how my temps do.

As for the fuel, and oil pressure gauges? They start out the bottom. Then when the car is turned on, they both go constantly up. The gas gauge goes way above full, which I know is wrong, because it still said that before I threw $30 in the tank. No difference.

Any advice guys?

Re: Gauges not fully working

Today I did some fidgiting around with mine. If I turn the key on and Dont start the car, turn the lights on where the gauges are all funny, I would tap the headlight switch with a wrench and the fuel gauge would work its way down to where it was accurate and some of the other gauges would flicker. So I am going to start there.

If I actually started the car, hitting the switch did nothing, so I am not for sure that is the problem.
