82 Z28 Tachometer Issue

Engine: 305 4BBL
82 Z28 Tachometer Issue
When I'm on the highway my Tachometer reads about 5500 RPMs. Seeing all the threads about inaccurate tachs I'm realizing mine is probably wrong. How would someone not very experienced on working with cars figure out what my actual RPMs should read?
