Installing a Gauge Cluster...Don't Know What the Flip Im Doing!

So, ive been wanting to install a water temp, oil pressure and volt gauge for a while and finally picked one up.

Problem being, I really have no clue when it comes to wiring.

I want to wire the lights to the dash lights so that I can see them at night and they aren't always running...

If someone could just give me a little advice on where to start it would be highly appreciated!

So;

How to:

1. Wire the Oil Pressure (is not electric)
2. Wire the volt meter
3. Wire the water temp ( is not electric)
4. Wire the lights

Unless you know what you are doing, I would personally go with all electric, especially on oil

Im only 17 and im not a champ in the wiring department either so i may not be much help.

As far as oil and temp goes those are easy i mean you run your cables/ wires through the firewall and put them in your corrosponding places. engine temp usually is on top of the engine, get a chiltons or somethign and find the sensor for it. I havent replaced the one on my camaro but i have on other vehicles.

As for your dashlights if you want to wire them to your headlights first check if the bulbs for the lights work, if so then look up something as simple as a wiring diagram for putting simple fog lamps on and that should give you a general idea. wire your dashlights up like you would the fog lamps. If it turns out to be a big issue go get little LED lights and mount them to the dash that will work i have done that on my friends 88 IROC.

for oil pressure refer to what i said about the engine temp, should be the same concept i dont know how they attach to the gauges but you would just run it where the old one was they basicly screw into the engine.

for your volt meter i have no clue, i have not messed with one before but im guessing after you have the hardware you could run it and figure out how it works pretty easily. my best guess is you connect it to the positive side of the battery or maybe another spot where it can connect to the power. follow all of your cables and wires that are already there for the old gauge cluster. it should be as simple as changing a distributer cap.

Its easy, just connect all your grounds to a ground. Your voltmeter wire to a source thats hot when the ignition comes on (I used the IGN slot on the fusebox). Then the hot wires for all the lights put on the fusebox slot it says INST/LPS, its only hot when you put your lights on
