Need help with a power hatch
I bought my 89 in march and the hatch motor is stuck up so when you put the hatch down to lock it, it doesnt close properly. I have no wiring in the car as it is stripped as it was this way when i bought it. Anyon know how I can get it down as I want to wash it as it has collected 2 inches of dust sitting at my shop
Thanks
Thanks

WIthout any typeof power going to it, the only way I can think of it to take it apart and manually bring it down. Or take it out and put in a manual slam latch from a junk yard or something.

Find the power wires coming off the motor and hook em up to a jump box

Re: Need help with a power hatch
I mean take a jumpbox (boosterbox) for starting a car, take two pieces of wire, take one piece and connect it to the pos of the jump box and take the other to the neg . then crawl in there to find the plug that goes directly to the motor of the power hatch, and push the free ends of the wires that are connected to the jump box into the plug for the motor and see if it works, if it doesnt switch the wires around...

Re: Need help with a power hatch
You can't just jump the pull down motor since there is a sensor that is directly connected to the motor's positive and negative terminals. You would have to remove that sensor and then put power to the motor for it to work.
Is there a harness at all on the pull down motor? Should be a relay with a harness thats just for the pull down motor since it has it's own wiring. If so, there is a red wire with a white stripe with a small plug. Nothing should be attached to it since you said your harness is gone. Put power to this wire and the motor should work fine.
Now if you don't have the trunk motor wiring at all, there is a small box shaped sensor with one phillips head screw holding it in the middle of the trunk motor assembly. You will need to remove this sensor in order to get to the positive and negative motor prongs. Put power and ground to each one till the motor goes the direction you want it to.

Re: Need help with a power hatch
You can easily power just the pull-down motor. Unplug the blue wire from the red/white stripe wire. Connect +12v to the blue wire and ground the black wire that is connected to the body below the hatch pull-down unit.

Re: Need help with a power hatch
Or you could loosen the 3 bolts holding the entire unit and slide it down a bit and then tighten it back up for now and that should close it enough to clean it until u repair the pull down unit
