91 Camaro build help
So I've been slowly rebuilding my 91 Camaro for a few years now. I'm on the home stretch and have run into another problem.
I have power to all the connections I checked in the engine bay...all the fuses I've checked are good...and I have no power to anything inside the car. I have no lights(interior/exterior), no radio and no accesories.
So my question is...Should there be a constant power flow through the alternator? I checked the plug terminal on the alternator and there is no power on either side of the plug.
Could this be my problem?

Did you connect the fusible links on the starter? Almost everything you've described runs through those fusible links. Also check to see if they're blown.

Ive checked all the fusible links I could find. I got power feeding into the alternator but not out through the plug on the side (while the car is off...obviously)

Re: 91 Camaro build help
That plug comes off of the fusible link at the starter, not the heavy black cable connected to the battery junction behind the pass side headlight.
Also make sure that the battery cable connection at the starter is good and tight or nothing will work. Take apart the big connector on the firewall on the driver's side and make sure you have 12V at terminals A4 and G5 in the big connector (on the outside away from the bolt in the middle of the connector, top and bottom rows).
Other than that, head to Austin TG and check the wiring diagrams there...

Re: 91 Camaro build help
Heres where im at.
There is a red and brown wire coming out of the plug out of the alternator. I cant find any fusible links on those wires. You know how far down past the alternator they should be?
Plus the wire diagram I have for my car shows no links on the brown wire (which feeds into the fuse block under the dash) and there should be a link on the red one on all cars except VIN T.
I got the alt checked and they said it was OK. But when I hook up my volt meter to the blades inside the female end of the plug(directly located in the alt) I still get zero power.
Oh yea and I cant get the big connector on the driver firewall seperated

Re: 91 Camaro build help
I'll take a look at my 92 FSM tomorrow and let you know on the situation with the red wire. However, if there is no power on the brown wire, there isn't any power to the dash. The firewall connector is held together with a bolt in the middle, 1/4" head, IIRC. The connector will separate as you undo the bolt, and then you pull it apart.
Let me see if I can find my power distribution diagram for the VIN T and post it...

Re: 91 Camaro build help
Ok so I followed the wire in plug A4 (no power) to the starter, I think...
Am I right on this finding?
Also, If I have the 2 red wires on the starter backwards would it cause this problem? (No idea at this point...just spit balling)

Re: 91 Camaro build help
Check to make sure the terminals on the starter are clean, and then find a way to measure the resistance of the wire between the starter terminal rings and A4 and G5... No reading probably means a broken wire.
Didn't realize I still had these:
