new with electrical trouble
So i just got my 1990 rs 5.0, i really need some help. First when i turn my lights on i have no dash lights at all. Second, my brights work but i cant switch to my dims, the switch on the collum doesnt click when i try to switch though so that might be the problem. Third, when i hit the blinkers they light up but dont blink for any of them. When i bought it all of the tail lights had been taken out cause the assemblies were off so i found all the bulbs in the car, put them in checking to make sure they weren't blown but im starting to think they might be the wrong bulbs so if i could get the bulb numbers that'd help. Also my rear running lights are really bright while the brake lights are dim, its like its backwards? Any ideas will really help as im not a fan of electrical. Thanks

1) Try the
function - it really does work great.
2) Dash lights - have you twisted the light switch? The light switch has a dimmer built in (like the old cars, which these cars are now), that dims/brightens the dash lights - maybe it just needs turned. Otherwise, I'd look at a new headlight switch.
3) Brights - under the steering column, above the brake pedal, the hi beam switch is there. Remove the underdash panel, and you'll see it. A rod runs from the lever to the switch, move the lever, and you'll see it moving in/out of the switch. The switch is adjustable - loosen the two 7mm screws and slide the switch just ever so slightly up towards the steering wheel, lock it back down, and test.
NOTE - the screws strip easily - don't overtighten!
NOTE - if you have a tilt steering wheel, make sure the wheel is in the normal driving position when you adjust - you can never get the switch to work at all tilts, so set it when wheel tilt is positioned where you normally drive
4) Signals & brake lights - I'd start by replacing the bulbs both front and rear - usually when the indicators are solid and don't flash, then it's a bad bulb - it only takes one to screw up the entire system. AND - make sure they are installed correctly! The round bases have two little nipples on them, one is closer to the glass than the other, and the socket is made accordingly - this might be making your park lights brighter, and your brake lights dimmer (wrong bulb filiment getting juice at wrong time from backwards install). www.sylvania.com will list the proper bulbs for every socket in your car.
