Headlight Dimmer Switch Repair

I have been fighting with my column lever to consistently work for high and low beams. I have disassembled the column more than I care and get it to move the metal lever for maybe 6 times and then it stops. I posted an inquiry asking for tips and received none. Well, I peformed the $7.39 plus tax repair.

I simply looked up a floor mount dimmer switch for an early 80's chevy pickup. I purchased a BWD floor dimmer switch part # DS111P at advance auto parts.

I removed the connector from the column mount switch. I nibbled a little chunk so it would sit on the firewall. I spliced the wires so they would reach (taped them too after the photo), drilled a couple holes for screws, cut the hole in the sound pad and rug and here you go. My high beams work every time, no muss, no fuss and no more stupid little plastic thingamajig in the column that doesn't seat correctly.

Please note, the screws in the photo are for reference only. I used smaller screws but that's all that you need for components that are in the photo. There is a reason that you mount it above the foot rest. The firewall dips down so the connector will fit after you nibble a tab off of it.
