Opinions and Direction Would be Appreciated
Can someone give me some pictures or some direction on where to go to next?
I have an 84 camaro i finally bought and aftermarket head unit for. Owned the car for the past 6 or 7 years and have put all the money into the drivetrain and cosmetics. So now the problem is that the guy who owned the car before me originally had an aftermarket kenwood head unit. The problem is is that he just cut the wires. I have the hanes book and i am using the wiring diagrams and luckily all the speaker wires are all there. The only problem is that the power and ground wires i can not find. I believe he ran a new line which is a black and orange wire. One black and one orange. I no the ground is supposed to be black but the wires are connected together. Meaning both the orange and black are using the same black jacketing. They both go to the fuse block where the radio fuse is but the issue im having is im blowing fuses as soon as i turn the key. I took all the wiring apart and made sure there were no ground faults wherever i can see. Should I be pulling the whole dash apart? Has anyone had issues with their wires getting frayed somewhere in the dash? Possibly behind the instrument cluster? Im honestly thinking about taking those wires off of the fuse block and just running new wires. What do you guys think? Any pointers? This car never gives me a damn break.

Your new headunit should have a red wire for power when key is on, and a yellow wire for constant battery power to keep memory in tact. Just connect those, and a ground, and you should have no issues (skip whatever the PO "created" for wiring, and run your own.
In the fuse panel, you'll see single slots that are empty, they are single because they only have one slot, and a fuse has two "legs". One will be marked RADIO - it gets power when key is at ON or ACC - use that slot for the red wire. Another will be marked BAT - that's conmstant 12v+ always - use it for the yellow wire. Ground to any metal, done.
