how to reassemble ignition lock - position of buzzer switch - 89 GTA
Hi -
I was putting my 1989 GTA ignition lock set in and I was having trouble figuring out how to put in the buzzer switch. I searched and found this site and tried to stick it in the hole as shown in the pictures: (I attached image in case this site removes links)
http://www.fieros.de/en/articles/steering.html
Anyway the hole has a metal clip and it seemed to go one way - If I push it toward the lock the key is hard to turn but when I push it away and insert the switch it works better - but when I put it back together there's no buzzer when I insert the key (steering wheel not on yet)
any ideas?
In the end I can live without it but I'm not in a big hurry to finish.
thanks
-Dan

Re: how to reassemble ignition lock - position of buzzer switch - 89 GTA
I figured out how it works - you install the switch with the lock cylinder out. It's slid in the hole just under the lockset. There's a metal tab that gets pushed downward to get it in. When the key is inserted it actuates the switch. There's two metal prongs that hit two contacs on the plastic piece that has the circuit board/turn signal switch. When you short the contacts it makes the cricuit and it buzzes.
After all of that i still can't get the plastic piece on the lockset to make contact with the switch but if I stick a small screw driver in the hole with the lockset out I can make contact and have it buzz.
Eh, I'll mess with it a little more and if I don't get it screw it - at least I know how it works. Maybe someone else will find this useful.
