adding power locks... need help
I'm trying to add power locks to my car. I have the factory solenoid, and a remote system for operating it.
I got the hatch release to work, wiring it directly as a 12V pulse sent to the hatch. For the power locks, I can't get the solenoid to move by applying 12V directly. I also tried grounding the casing of the solenoid in case that helps.
My car did not have factory locks to begin with, so I don't have the switches. I thought I could just bypass the switch, and just use the keychain fob. I'm wondering if I need to wire in a switch anyway, and just hide it.
Could somebody tell me what I could be doing wrong?

Re: adding power locks... need help
I could have sworn the acuators should work with direct voltage... two wires, one causes it to unlock, the other locks it.
I shouldn't need a relay, should i?
there has to be somebody that knows the answer to this question

Re: adding power locks... need help
never mind. I got it fixed.
There are two wires coming off the actuator. I thought one was lock, one was unlock, and it grounded from the chassis.
turns out the tan wire is lock, and the grey wire is ground, but then when you unlock,
Figured out how to make it work. now I just have to mount everything in the door and I'll be good to go!
by the way, if anybody is interested... this is the system i'm using. once I figure out how to wire it (instructions were a little misleading, there are THREE wires that have to be grounded coming off the control box, not one) it was easy
