1986 z28 cluster tach

Hi guys, looking to find out if I can just swap out the individul tach itself from one camaro to another? not the entire cluster..but just the tach? I have done a 350 swap and have yet to hook up the tach. But am highly doubting it is gonna function correctly. So...if that's the case I already have my gauge bezel off and noticed its fairly easy to just pull the tach itself right out!

I guess my question would be easier if i stated it plainly.

I want to swap out my tach (if broken) with one from the junk yard. Can I do this without swapping out the cluster? I would rather have one that went higher..mine tops out pretty low..lol. Is that easy to do, or must I get one exactly like mine?

Also..hooking up the stock tach to a swapped 350 means obviously hooking it up to the distributer..BUT what wire am I supposed to hook up to it? I have looked at all the wiring diagrams on here and the best i can tell, the white wire coming from the back of the gauge cluster..but does that wire come into teh engine bay where I can tag onto it?? If so that would be awesome! Only thing is..I have several white wires!!! LOL I don't mind playing switch a roo until i found the right one..BUT i dont wanna do that and find out I was wasteing my time. Thank you all!!

You should be able to swap V8 to V8 tach. No need to remove the cluster. All can be done from the front in a matter of minutes. When I swapped to my 350/330, I wanted a higher reading red line (5500), so I located one in a yard and simply swapped the new for the old. Zero issues.

just make sure its out of a v8. the v6 tach wont read right, for obvious reasons.
