89 key chip bad?

89 key chip bad?

89 5.7 Can the chip in my key go bad??

never heard of that unless it falls out of your key. but i know the wire going to the reader can break seen that a lot, put the key in and under the dash toward passenger side you'll hear a relay click. need to change the ignition lock cylinder with a new one

ive been trying to get my car on the road and the car wont start... i checked everything fuel at the rail spark, everything is good.. so im sitting and thing about the chip in the key so i go get my other set of keys and it starts.. i was just reading about vat and i think i want to bypass it but not really sure on how to do it...

hmm ok if you have a ohm reader id be interested to see if they are differnt omhs maybe someone had the key mad with the wrong chip? glad you got it running tho

The chip in the key itself cannot go bad, but the Module that reads the chip can.

Also, the "chip" is 'read' by two little contacts inside the ignition switch - these little contacts are spring-loaded so that they are forced to make contact with the "chip" when the key is inserted. Most times, the VATS issues arise because those contacts are worn out, or the springs behind them are worn out, or even popped out of place.
