Help, my rear hatch wont go down.

So I took my 'bird to the shop to have some work done to it and somehow they messed up the hatch motor or mechanisim. He did all he could to try and figure out what happened but as it is now the motor is unplugged. I plugged it back in today and it raised the latch all the way up and so I tried to shut it like I always did before, set the hatch down slowly until I heard it latch, then press down to engage the motor and whatnot. Well the hatch latched but for whatever reason it wouldn't go down. As I was messing with it I could hear the motor click occasionally and noticed it got hot over time. I dunno what the issue is but the whole mechanisim is about 250 bucks on ebay so if I can avoid spending that please tell me how! The last time there was a problem with the hatch the car belonged to my dad and I was probably no more than 14 lol (25 now). We fixed it with a flat head screw driver and that was that.
Thanks for your advice!
Derek

I can tell you if someone jerks on the hatch while its opening, it will do that.

Re: Help, my rear hatch wont go down.

I bet that's what they did too. I went through the process of how to open and close the hatch before I left the car with him and go figure. I should've taken the stuff out of the back, I've been **** about that hatch since before the car was even mine. Zenish, did you latch the hatch and then hit that switch? I noticed that was there and I pressed on it but the hatch wasn't latched or anything and I didn't notice any difference when I pushed it in. The next thing I was going to do was take a screw driver or something and try to simulate that as the hatch's latch, then try and hit that black button to see if it does anything. What is the striker for on the hatch itself? Do I need to worry about that when doing this?

Re: Help, my rear hatch wont go down.

Earlier today I took the whole assembly apart. Easy to get it apart, but a pain the *** getting it together since I had the brilliant idea of taking the motor apart. Nothing looked out of the ordinary except for those 4 plastic guides which were chipped on the corners and didn't want to stay on. I lowered the latch as much as I could manually and put it back together. I haven't hooked the relay up or the power supply to the motor for fear it will just lift the hatch up again like it was before. What should I check now? Should I disconnect the battery, close the hatch, connect the relay and power supply and then hook the battery back up?? What did you guys do to fix your issues?
Thanks for your help,
Derek
