Blinker Malfunction

Once in a while my right blinker light inside the car stays on and then goes off. I never was able to check it out because before I got to a safe spot to stop it started working correctly. Well, now it wont stop. I pulled over turned my blinker on and the front lights for the blinker are off completely and the right rear stays on indefinitely. That is when the headlights are on. I turn the headlights off and then turn the blinker on and all the blinker lights turn on and stay on for 20ish seconds and then turn off then turn on and stay on for another 20ish seconds. I tried playing with wires to see if they weren't grounded correctly or tried turning my wheel all the way left and all the way right just incase that had something to do with it. I turned my hazards on, did my windshield wipers. I did everything that I could think of. I know that my car has some wiring issues and I took corners left and right hard to try and see if a loose wire was touching something it should be. Turned the car off and on and it didn't help at all.

Any suggestions?

Re: Blinker Malfunction

Ive had this same problem in my 87 Trans Am. I know our cars are set up a little different, but with mine, it ended up being one of my blinker bulbs, it was loose in the socket it plugs into, the bulb is good, it just wont fit and tighten snugly in the socket, I ended up fixing it, but if i sit and mess with it or wiggle it, it will still do it sometimes. If I was you, I'd go and turn your headlights on and then mess with the different bulbs, your blinker ones, side markers, could be in any one of them. the green blinker arrow in your dash will turn off when you know its fixed. That's what worked for me. I hope some of that info helps you out.

Alright, that definitely makes sense. I will be trying it out shortly and let you know.

Re: Blinker Malfunction

Well I tried messing with the bulbs and stuff. Took them out and put them back in. It still didn't fix it. I took it for a ride to the auto parts store to get some supplies and have the guys there take a look if they knew anything. They think it might be the switch inside the steering wheel console. The weird thing is that all the blinker lights "work" they will all turn on at some point it just all the right ones don't blink "fast" they have an extreme delay when they stay on. And when i turn the headlights on the front blinker lights which are normally on as running lights turn off.

When i turn the right blinkers on when the head lights are off and they eventually do flick off then on after 15 to 20 seconds it doesn't make the clicking noise that it normally does.

I have came to the conclusion it is somewhat tied to the headlights switch because they are affected by it.

Any more ideas?

Re: Blinker Malfunction

do the hazard light work fine? if so id try replacing the turn signal flasher, and check the grounds for the lighting harness.

Re: Blinker Malfunction

Not sure now. The car sat for a day and now it's working fine. So I am not sure. These cars are amazing. One day they will run like they are straight out of the factory the next they show their age... If it happens again I will get back on this thread, which, I am sure it will come up soon. I will be parking it for the winter in a week though.

Re: Blinker Malfunction

I figured out it has to do with something in the steering wheel. I decided to tap the steering column on the top and it fixed it....
