Hey I was wondering if anyone has done away with their knock sensors on a lq4 6.0. What would be the downside to deleting them (aside from blowing a hole in your piston).

What would be the upside?

I need to replace mine (corroded) and the connectors (corroded n broken) and the rubber grommets (torn) that seal them. Thought i would save 175 bucks by not doing it.

the purpose of the knock sensor is to retard the timing when it detects knock. remove it and you run a high risk of breaking something or blowing the engine. are you willing to take that risk to save $175?

A Butt splice and some shrink tubing.. $2.00?

lq4 might have a "special" knock sensor. im unsure about that. but its still a pretty important part of the ignition system.

wow. Indeed it does.... but agreed. Not worth it to delete. I'd be making a trip to a Junkyard before ordering a new one though....

The junkyards are worthless around here so I will buy new stuff. I called my gm dealer today. sensors 85.00 ea, wiring 40.00.

im sure you can get it cheaper than that if you dont go through a dealer.

I found the who shebang, sensors,wiring,rubber sensor grommets at a place called nook and tranny (funny) for 167 bucks. They have all kinds of ls stuff.
