just wanting to blow off some steam!
just wanting to blow off some steam!
So for the past week i have been having a slight problem with all my electronics cutting out going over bumps. Come to find out the bolt on the copper stud on my starter has stripped some of the threads and came loose causing missconnection in the power wires. NOW HERE IS WHAT BUGS THE HECK OUT OF ME! I learned that one of the wires is the main power wire for my fuse block... why in the f#@k did GM route this wire from the d@mn starter to the fuse block instead of coming straight from the battery to the fuse block. If they did it this way i would have never had this issue. Man ill tell you what... the things that make you want to go EEEEERRRR!!! Anyone else find some stupid wiring like this that gm did? Please post.

Re: just wanting to blow off some steam!
I have a fun one... But it is rather long.
So I was having electrical issues where I noticed at first my tail lights stopped working, then blinkers, then interior lights... things were going out one by one. So I figured I had some major wiring issues.
So I took my car to the shop and he traced it to the wiring harness under the dash. He gave me an outrageous quote to fix it, so I decided to tow it home and do it myself.
So I pull the panels off and noticed that the wiring harness had gotten sawed through by the metal brace that holds the dash up.
I guess a little clip broke off, which after all the vibrations ended up sawing through half the wiring harness and frying it. I basically separated the cut wires and just chopping them and soldering them back together with additional wire, then rewrapping them.
Talk about a pain in the ***.

Yup, these masterminds at GM have made me a believer in any other car company. It's onl;yfun to drive it if it"s working. My solution is I am putting it on craigs list and parting it out and buying a civic. At least it is a dependable car.

Re: just wanting to blow off some steam!
they ran the starter as a junction block because the starter is one of the highest amp demands in a car. it needs a connection directly to the battery. and instead of spending money on a seperate junction block somewhere else that can fail, they just used what was already there.
